main characters

Subaru Sumeragi is a young Onmiyoji, or sorcerer, who is the 13th head and leader of his household. He has a young twin sister named Hokuto. He was born in Tokyo, and during the events of Tokyo Babylon, he is the tender age of 16. Subaru is very respectful, and gets very upset when he thinks that he has bothered or annoyed anyone. He gets very shy when Hokuto and Seishirou throw suggestions his way about there being something more between Seishirou and him, though it's obvious that Subaru has quite a crush on Seishirou. Regardless of his attitude, Subaru is a very powerful medium. His strength is certainly daunting for anyone who thinks that they can go against him. His shikigami is a three headed white crow. Subaru must also wear gloves, which his grandmother ordered him not to take off because he was marked with the inverted pentagram, the mark of the Sakurazukamori. In Tokyo Babylon, we see Subaru as a young kid talking to Seishirou about the Sakura (Cherry Blossom) tree, where Seishirou makes to Subaru a promise that Subaru was unable to hear due to the wind. All that he heard Seishirou tell him was that as long as Seishirou himself is alive, Subaru will never feel any pain. Very curious.

Hokuto is the wild twin sister of Subaru. She loves to dress weird, and forces Subaru into clothing like hers, so he is always dressed somewhat weirdly, as well. Though she is loud and playful, Hokuto has a genuine love for her brother, and contantly worries over how hard he works, and how serious he takes his job. She is also a strong supporter of Subaru and Seishirou's relationship, telling them that she couldn't possibly stand in the way of something that two people want. Though she is also a Sumeragi, Hokuto doesn't possess the spiritual powers of Subaru, though she is knowledgable about some things that have to do with the spiritual field.

Seishirou Sakurazuka is the older (25) and kindly friend of Subaru and Hokuto. He works as a vet in Tokyo, but always finds time to spend the evening shopping for groceries with Hokuto or driving Subaru around. His affection for them is obvious, as is the more th an friendship interest he has in Subaru. He seems like a very kind and gentle man, yet there is more than what is on the surface. Whenever Subaru gets into trouble, Seishirou appears to help out. His shikigami is an eagle, which is an ominous sign for anyone who is fighting Subaru. Subaru never gets to witness these things, as he is always knocked out. But Seishirou appears, and it's revealed that he too possesses great spiritual powers, and a strength that far overwhelms that of Subaru. Even more, where Subaru is kind and merciful, Seishirou fights to the death without mercy. And... what about that promise Seishirou made to Subaru? What's that all about?
